 It botanical name is Lagenaria siceraria/Lagenaria vulgar. It is also known as bottle gourd or long squash. It is a very common cultivated plant in China especially in the topical or subtropical areas.  It is usually harvested young to use as a vegetable. This vegetable has a light green smooth skin and the flesh is white in color. There are many types of gourd/squash related to this family. It comes in all shapes and sizes. In the Chinese Cuisine this squash is frequently used in stir-fries and soups. To cook them you need to peel off the skins. It is also used in Indian Cuisine. It is mainly used in curries.
