Shallot’s flavor is similar to a cross between onion and garlic, but more delicate, sweet and complex. Shallots most probably originated in Central or Southeast Asia countries and then spread to India and Eastern Mediterranean.Shallots are formed in a clusters and the color vary from golden brown to rose red and their flesh is white but tinged with green or magenta color.
Its taste is somewhat like common onion but it has a milder flavor and does not fume your eyes when you are cutting them.
You can find them year-round in supermarkets or fresh markets. It can be stored them for at least 6 months. It is also used as a condiment in Asian cuisines, Indian cuisines, Southeast Asian cuisines and Western cuisines.
