The sweet Potato is distantly related to the potato. There are many varieties of sweet potatoes that their colors vary from beige, purple, brown to dark red on the outside and beige, orange, orange red, yellow, purple in the inside.The softer orange colored sweet potato in North America is called Yam. The sweet potato is domesticated to either in Central America or South America at 5,000 years ago. China is the largest grower of sweet potatoes – 80% of the world supply.

The sweet potato plant is a most important product as a staple food crop because of it uses. The starchy tuberous roots, shoots and leaves are edible. In China, sweet potatoes were grown for human consumption but now a little for human consumption and for other products. You may find that China grows the most variety of sweet potatoes…about 100 varieties.
